Celebrating our seraphic father St. Francis :2024 transitus
On every 3rd of October, Franciscans all over the world gather to celebrate the transitioning of Francis from life to eternal life and to renew the commitment to follow christ. This year our office volunteers joined franciscans and friends of Francis in celebrating transitus, which was held at St. Padre Pio capuchin friary in Karen.
The transitus celebration started from 2:00 pm and more than 600 people joined ranging from the first order (Capuchins, Conventuals and OFM brothers, Second order where poor clare nuns joined and the third order which was represented by many congregations and OFS & YouFra member and friends of st francis).
The transitus was marked with two main activities: The ritual of lucernary -the acting and reading of the piece taken from the franciscan sources which relates to the last moments of st francis life and reading of the scriptures (the Gospel passage that st. Francis asked his brothers to read loudly ) and this year’s celebration was led by the Capuchin brothers assisted by the poor clares.
After remarks from the Franciscan Family association chairperson Br. David Kamau Ofm. Cap , Fr. Francis Kanyiri OFM Conventual and Br. Arnold Shirima Ofm Cap. The celebration ended with a light sharing of the gifts of food that the franciscan communities and congregations had brought.
