In 2022, the people of Isinya were living through one of the hardest seasons they could remember. The rains had failed, the land was dry and cracked, and families were struggling to find enough food and water. We at JPIC Franciscans Africa, inspired by St. Francis’s love for the poor and his care for every part of creation, could not stand by in silence.
Our first step was to meet urgent needs sharing relief food, helping children stay in school, and offering psycho-social support to ease the heavy emotional toll of the crisis. These acts brought some relief, but we knew they were only a beginning. The community needed more than survival they needed tools, skills, and resources to stand strong in the face of a changing climate.
That’s how the Laudato Si’ Community Center came to life. It is now a place where hope takes root where families learn zero-grazing livestock farming, start poultry projects, set up kitchen garden to grow food through agroecology, and access clean water from a community borehole. It’s not just about projects; it’s about dignity, resilience, and the joy of knowing that together, we can build a future where both people and the land can flourish.
