Inspired by St. Francis of Assisi who famously met peacefully with Sultan Al-Malik al-Kamil during the Crusades Franciscans continue to engage in meaningful conversations across religious lines. They promote peace through humility, openness, and service.
Today, Franciscan communities actively participate in interreligious initiatives and promote cooperation through their work in Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC). Through partnerships with other faith groups, they address social inequality, protect the environment, and defend human rights.
Franciscans also lead by example. Their work in schools, hospitals, and community centers is open to all, regardless of religious background. Their daily lives reflect values of simplicity, nonviolence, and care for others. Franciscan institutions often include interfaith education, preparing young people to lead with compassion and awareness.
Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’, rooted in Franciscan values, has further broadened this interfaith approach—inviting people of all faiths to care for our shared planet.
